The Directors of the International Lindy Hop Championships, Tena Morales-Armstrong, Nina Gilkenson, and Sylvia Sykes, met in May to continue an ongoing conversation regarding making ILHC’s “J&J” competition, and the event itself, more inclusive to everyone in our community. As a result, the Directors have decided to change the name of their random partner competitions from “J&J” to “Luck of the Draw.” The website has been updated to reflect this change.

In an effort to hear comments and concerns about ILHC’s inclusivity, they will be carefully reading emails sent via the comment form located at regarding the event. The email contact form will be active and open from May 17 to June 1, 2017. After a reading period, on June 15, the Directors will announce further considerations for long-term improvements in the event.

Finally, the Directors are currently working closely with our Safe Spaces Consultant to improve Safe Spaces policies and the Code of Conduct by August 1, 2017. The current ILHC Code of Conduct is available on the website at During the event weekend this August 24-27, they also plan to have a LED Talk (discussion with experts) on creating an inclusive culture. The goal of these changes are in support of ILHC’s mission, which includes “making an event that can give back to the community.”
